Firefighter Introductory training class Overview

Minimum class size will be 12, maximum size will be 24. It will cost $125.00 per person. The following subjects were requested to be delivered to introduce the new firefighter to the industry. It will certify them on PPE / SCBA / Safety Module and we will add a few subjects to make them more resourceful on the training and fireground. THE EXTRA SUBJECTS ARE NOT FF-1 MODULES. This class is not to replace FF-1, it will provide the student and the Fire Chief with a general idea of what FF-1 is about in 28 hours before making the committment to a full 212 hr program.

Dates:

Thursday May 11th, 2011; 6-10pm. PPE - personal protective ensemble; how gear is made, features, protection values, proper fit, donning and doffing, maintenance.

Wednesday May 19th, 2011; 6-10pm. SCBA - self contained breathing apparatus, components, how they work, maintenance, cleaning, proper donning, doffing and useage.

Sunday May 22th, 2011; 8-4pm SAFETY - personal safety covering hazards associated with firefighting, what we are protected wearing our PPE and SCBA, SCBA Trailer, Search and Rescue, Emergency Procedures / Moves

Wednesday June 1st, 2011; 6-10pm FIRE BEHAVIOR - basic format on fire triangle, flashpoint, ignition temperatures, backdraft, explosions, rapid fire increase. & HOSE STREAMS - different types, sizes, flows, hose loads, deployment, advancement and handling skills.

Sunday June 5th, 2011; 8-4pm THERMAL INSULT RECOGNITION - HOSE and STREAMS PRACTICAL; hands on fire behaivor class to see, feel and understand what is happening around us. Using all the previous classes to complete our skills review portion.

I repeat once again, the student would ONLY acquire a certification (on his or her personal NHFA transcript) for the PPE / SCBA / SAFETY Firefighter 1 module.
